Who We Are
PhotoRestoration is a small team of engineers and archivists building one thing: a tool that restores, colorizes, repairs, and animates old family photographs — in about a minute, from a browser tab, without installing anything.
The project started with a shoebox: photos of a family that the youngest members had never seen clearly, because the prints were fading faster than anyone could scan them. Everything we ship traces back to that problem.
What Our Tool Does
- Restore — rebuilds fading, blur, and lost contrast in black-and-white and color prints.
- Repair — closes tears, scratches, creases, and stains.
- Colorize — adds believable, conservative color to monochrome originals.
- Animate — turns a still portrait into a short moving clip, and can reconstruct speech and singing from a single photo.
The first preview of every upload is free — you judge the result before you pay for a full-resolution download. The credit rates are published openly on the pricing page, and you can delete your photos from your account at any time; the privacy policy explains exactly what happens to them.
How It Works
Your photo is processed by state-of-the-art generative image models accessed through our service. The models were trained on large photographic corpora; they rebuild damage from the surrounding real texture of your scan rather than painting over your photo. We state plainly what this means: where detail survives, the result is recovery; where detail is missing, the result is a plausible reconstruction — which is why every guide on this site tells you to keep the original scan.
Our Editorial Standards
The guides on this blog are written by our team and checked against public-institution sources — the U.S. National Archives and the Library of Congress chief among them. Where we make a claim about photographic deterioration or preservation, we link the source. Where AI produces a guess rather than a recovery, the articles say so. We do not publish a restoration claim we cannot demo on our own tool.
